ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a basic understanding of the concepts around soft skills, their nature and components. Soft skills are defined differently by different groups of stakeholders, but they can be understood as non-technical skills. They are elusive, interrelated, and appear to vary slightly between disciplines. They may include cognitive abilities, emotional skills, personal attributes, business-oriented skills, etc. This chapter also emphasizes the emergence of soft skills in our modern universities. Recent international, national, and institutional initiatives have contributed to the increased importance of soft skills and created a pressing need to equip students with such skills for their future work and life.
