ABSTRACT

The aesthetic object is simultaneously a transformational one – like the mother of infancy, it creates conditions for growing and is Oren Gozlan experienced as a process rather than a static object. Because tolerating the tension is vital for realizing the transformative potential present in the encounter with the aesthetic object, when the experience of tension is refused, so is the transformation. Perhaps Gozlan’s use of D. Meltzer’s aesthetic conflict in conceptualizing psychic reactions to transsexual bodies can be further extended to understanding the commonality of violence directed toward both transgender and bisexual bodies. In the academic sphere as well, both bisexual and transgender theorists have spoken and written about parallels and bridges between bisexual and transsexual experiences and subjectivities. In the symbolic equation drawn by S. Freud, the people who are able to express and actualize their bisexual attractions are also the ones who have it in them to truly benefit from analysis.
