ABSTRACT

This chapter explains rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) involves, together with information about some key people in its formation. CBT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the role of cognition in the expression of emotions and behaviors. The Freudian approach involved discovering the causes of psychological sickness during childhood. This is unlike the REBT and CBT approaches, which believe that psychological disorders are mainly related to our thinking and behaviors, and also to the human potential to solve psychological problems. Psychological unhealthiness are essentially an illogical and unrealistic evaluation of events and situations by which, during the evaluation process, the client regularly distorts reality in a self-defeating way. The importance of a change in clients’ thinking, due to REBT interventions, is exemplified in the studies of positive effect. The important thing about RE & CBT is to regulate feelings through cognition.
