ABSTRACT

“If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a prototype is worth a thousand pictures”. Making the decision to pursue a business idea, is the point at which an inventor meets reality, that is, one can describe the idea to family, friends and potential customers; but if they cannot see it, feel it or really imagine it, no one is going to gain valuable advice and feedback. This is why Proof-of-Concept (or prototyping and/or exemplification) is so important in technology transfer. As Upton sees it, by creating a prototype, it is possible to sit down with a real version of the product and determine which aspects are worthwhile and which parts need to be revised or discarded. The same happens in the experimental process of prototyping a scientific idea.
