ABSTRACT

This chapter explores Anne’s finances and household. Anne held dower properties worth thousands of pounds, as well as collected dues, such as queen’s gold. These great financial resources helped Anne to support her household and her interests. Anne’s household included both Englishmen and immigrants, although her “Bohemian” followers, condemned by chronicler Thomas Walsingham, were not as destructive as the chronicler claimed nor even all Bohemian. Finally, the chapter examines some of the material culture of Anne’s life, such as her crowns and tableware. As befitted a queen and daughter of an emperor, Anne lived a luxurious lifestyle.
