ABSTRACT

The convergence of big data and blockchain will greatly affect how organisations should approach data and how they can derive insights from it. Blockchain, however, enables organisations to keep control over their proprietary and confidential data if they want to share data with industry partners. The data will remain within the organisation, and simply provides industry partners with access to it under certain conditions. The tangle is built using a so-called directed acyclic graph, which is actually not a blockchain at all. Organisations that want to apply blockchain within their organisation will need to ensure that their data is correct and of the highest standards. Centralised organisations, such as Facebook, Google, or Amazon, have too much control over consumer data and the system no longer works. Such centralised control of data ownership by large corporations is harmful to consumers, as it gives centralised organisations enormous power and puts consumers in a vulnerable position.
