ABSTRACT

This chapter draws on a famous quote credited to Margaret Mead and a valid point for anyone trying to create change: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Try naming some renowned companies that have thrived for 100 years or longer. It might be difficult to think of many since most organizations have a finite life span, and sustained competitiveness and relevance are difficult to achieve. Eastman Kodak, a top film company in its day, is now legendary for being one of the most spectacular failures of a century-old corporation. Kodak was a film company that dismissed digital photography as a threat, even though the first digital camera was invented by one of its own engineers, Steve Sasson, in 1975. Change is the adaptation or complete transformation of people, processes, products, and places. Minds change, preferences change, circumstances change, and crises occur daily.
