ABSTRACT

Among the most disliked classroom experiences by international students are oral presentations and group work. But, if you can master these and related activities, your study abroad experience will be more satisfying and less nerve-wracking. Lastly, feeling more comfortable giving presentations and performing group work will also help in your post-graduation employment.

The first part of the chapter is on oral presentations. Speaking in front of a group of people is a skill that can be improved, especially once you understand the dynamics of presentations. With clear and easy-to-follow suggestions, you will become a more effective and confident public speaker.

The second part of this chapter is on group work. International students often struggle in groups because they may not completely understand what is required, or how to best interact with team members. Using six practical tips that can be adapted to any group situation, collaboration will become less stressful, more pleasurable, and effective.

The last part of the chapter is on becoming a proactive international student which involves learning how to take notes, being organized, and dealing effectively with distractions.
