ABSTRACT

This session acknowledges the difficulties a young person will have encountered in their life, again through the analogy of difficulties encountered in their sport or hobby. It explores some of the difficulties and hurdles the young person might have faced often that were out of their control. The session should not be thought of as a script that needs to be strictly adhered to, but rather conversation starters that take one on helpful pathways. Some pathways may take more time and exploration than others, and it is likely that one won’t use all the questions. Sometimes, even if we’ve got a really good team around us and we train hard and do all the right things, there can be obstacles in our way that are hard to overcome. Young people who have experienced trauma where they were not in control and didn’t have a strong team around them understand this.
