ABSTRACT

The rather imperious word “directing” suggests ordering people around, but it’s utterly misleading for documentary since you guide, lead, or catalyze. Never do you command. Your job is to know what motivates people, what psychological blocks you must remove to give them autonomy, and what pressures you can legitimately exert to catalyze new levels of awareness or uncover hidden truth. This is leadership at its most indirect. How best to prepare yourself?
