ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the orations of Cyrus and the oration of Chrysantas, and the epistle of Cyrus. Cyrus tarrying a good while with his army, declared them to be ready to fight, if any would come forth, but when none came, he retreated his host, so far as he thought good. And when he had encamped, apppointed watch and ward, and sent forth the scout watch. One of the Medes, a great esteemer of music, said to Cyrus if he vouschafes to give one of the women minstrels to him, it would be a greater to joy than to remain at home. Cyrus agrees to give one of them women with all his heart and conveys his thanks for his request.
