ABSTRACT

There have been several initiatives to provide guidance and agendas for the private sector’s contribution to the SDGs. For example, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the United Nations Global Compact and the SDG Compass have all been established for this purpose, with the involvement of the UN and other agencies, such as the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. The SDG Compass explains how the SDGs affect the business of each company and offers the tools and knowledge for placing sustainability at the heart of each company’s strategy. Within this context, this concluding chapter summarises the findings of this study into how major industry sectors are responding to this challenge and how they are approaching the SDGs. Key themes arising from this analysis are discussed and the critical issues for the continued support of the SDGs up until 2030 are identified.
