ABSTRACT

Applying Trauma-Sensitive Practices in School Counseling is a professional guidebook for practicing school counselors and school counseling graduate students. This book intends to answer the questions “How are students affected by trauma and ACEs?” and “What can educators and school counselors do to address the negative impact of trauma in schools?” The book includes three steps toward trauma-sensitive school counseling practices: (1) Understand the impact of childhood trauma on student learning and child development, (2) Develop trauma-sensitivity schoolwide by supporting ALL students to reach those with ACEs, and (3) Implement school counseling strategies to further support students with ACEs using the TSC model of trauma-sensitive, tiered intervention.
