ABSTRACT
Using the information in this book, you can change your practice, change your school culture, and change your district policies. This chapter includes your first steps. Take your time. Gather a team. Celebrate small wins. Share what you learn. Soon, you will build the trauma-sensitive movement you desired. After getting the green-light from school administration to explore trauma-sensitivity school-wide, school counselors find their collaborative network. We call this network a trauma-sensitive taskforce. The purpose of this trauma-sensitivity taskforce is to develop and execute sustainable, collective efforts on the journey toward fully implemented trauma-sensitivity in the school. These efforts will:
Develop and Sustain Trauma-Sensitive Policies and Practices
Provide Clear and Consistent Messages Among All Groups
Map Resources and Coordinate Services
Determine Student Eligibility for Tiered Interventions
Consult and Provide Trauma-Sensitive Coaching to Other School Staff and Community Members.
