ABSTRACT

India and Vietnam joined ASEAN after the disintegration of the Soviet Union. The purpose of the expansion of ASEAN was to make it more inclusive. India, after becoming a Sector dialogue partner, became a full dialogue partner around the same time that Vietnam joined the organisation as a full member. The two countries also joined ASEAN-centric organisations, such as ARF, ADMM+, and EAS. This chapter looks into the role that the two countries play under the ASEAN institutions and what the future possibilities are.
