ABSTRACT

The collection of normative reference data is a basic foundation of the construction, standardization, and evaluation of any assessment tool. While non-patient reference data are an essential part of a clinical decision-making process, wherein the data can be compared against test results, data obtained from samples of patients with various kinds of disorders are also needed to assist in drawing conclusions about specific features of impairment. Alzheimer’s disease affects people in different ways, and people with the disorder differ in how they experience its symptoms and progress through its stages. As a consequence, differences between typical age-related cognitive changes and early signs of Alzheimer’s dementia can be subtle. Rorschach assessment can enhance understanding of the Alzheimer’s disease global spectrum, help in identifying the typical psychological profile during the different stages of the disease, and assist in developing treatment plans that will bolster the afflicted person’s sense of well-being.
