ABSTRACT

Telling the truth under all conditions is a core concept of the news media internationally. The initiatives today are not to abandon the concept, but to define truth more broadly and deeply than facts-only, accurate, and unbiased information. The cases in this chapter work on several dimensions of truthtelling in today’s complex world. How should scientific documents be reported when they challenge various political interest? Is Al Jazeera as an international news operation a biased propaganda network? How the can the social media that tend to fragment society communicate truth to the public as a whole? What is an effective strategy when stories deal with religious disputes, contentious politics, and multicultural conflict? How can sensational news about sexual abuse advance the conversation on gender equality and women’s rights?
