ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter answers the question raised in the introduction: is China on the road to dictatorship or predatory competition? The answer is neither. The convoluted forms of Chinese statecraft engage a wide range of stakeholders in constant re-creation of the Chinese dream of the socialist economy. Through their innovative changes to the discursive topology, they contribute to create a new, different and distinctly Chinese society. The chapter sums up the findings about social enterprises’ contributions in the form of five paradoxes and three lessons. Anyone who wants to engage with social enterprises in China needs to consider each carefully before deciding on their own path.
