ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the book’s aim—to move the thinking about technology forward by using performance as a metaphor to understand and evaluate what we do with technology and what technology does with us. Along with this, the introduction explains how the book connects and responds to philosophy of technology, STS, and the performative turn. It also points to the dominance of the metaphor of seeing in the history of philosophy and explains how it connects with theories of the performing arts, including dance, theatre, music, and stage magic. The book also responds to performance philosophy and mentions some limitations and constraints. Finally, the introduction explains the overall approach and offers an overview of the structure and chapters of the book.
