ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the conclusion of the book: we have now some elements of a framework for thinking about technology, a performance-oriented phenomenology, and ethics of technology that takes its inspiration from metaphors offered by the performing arts. Users and experiencers of technology are presented as embodied, moving, social, temporal, situated, narrative, and so on. The metaphors have also helped to (re)formulate what happens if technology shapes our lives in ways that go beyond functioning as a mere instrument: when technology becomes an agent and takes over tasks from humans, and when technology shapes the structure and grammar of our lives—better: when technology writes, directs, and choreographs our performances. Finally, acknowledging this also means that we should reflect on how technology shapes our thinking, including our thinking about technology, which is always a social and transient process. It is hoped that this book moves a few things.
