ABSTRACT

Asking and answering questions is a crucial part of guided math lessons. It is important the teacher think about and plan for the questions that will be used to move the conversation along. The teacher should keep a reference sheet of questions so that s/he has a wide repertoire to choose from. Be sure to use Bloom’s questions, making sure to ask different types throughout the lesson. It is important to scaffold questions for ELL students. It is also important for teachers to reflect upon the math talk that is taking place in the guided math group.
