ABSTRACT
Leveled workstations are important so that students can practice in their zone of proximal development. We must all learn the continuums for primary content and align our instructional activities with them. Even in kindergarten, we need to know the nuances in the counting continuum, given that there are 20 levels. It is important to level the priority standard workstations so that students can practice throughout the year and leave having achieved the grade-level standard. Workstations should allow students to practice math through the cycle of concrete, pictorial, and abstract activities. Students shouldn’t be rushed through these phases because they all need different amounts of time to get a strong understanding. One of the main premises of the workstations is that everybody is working toward grade-level standards all year. We are all going to get there, just maybe not at the same time.
