ABSTRACT
Math workstations are about students engaging, rigorous, standards-based purposeful practice, sometimes individually, but often in pairs and groups. Math workstations go well when explicit protocols have been established and students are accountable for the work they are doing. Stations should be differentiated so that students can practice in their zone of proximal development. Remember that practice over time allows students to own the concepts, so it is important to keep the fluency, word problem, and place value workstations up throughout the year. The only station that constantly changes is the unit of study station, because it is based on the current unit of study.
