ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter outlines how the journey to Contextual Safeguarding so far has both rewritten some rules of child protection and reaffirmed others. The author notes that some of these rules may be perceived rather than real, and others may be determined by nationally designed parameters as opposed to those intended by global definitions of social work or child protection. Recognising both schools of thought is important as it reflects our experience on the ground – some practitioners feeling at home with the approach and others feeling in foreign terrain. To deny either risks stifling further progression.
