ABSTRACT

Fear originates in the brain with the potential to cause psychological and physiological changes or elemental reactions like flight, fight, or freeze. Psychological distress may include phobias, anxiety, worry, terror, panic, or even deeper psychoses like paranoia, schizophrenia, or deep depression (bi-polar reaction). Beginning with a startle to full panic, the brain stimulates the body to prepare it for flight, fight, or to freeze in place with a quick infusion, or “dump,” of adrenalin. This happens as the brain registers a sudden threat to safety and security, translating into fear, even irrational behavior.
