ABSTRACT

“Daredevils” indulge their fear as though it is an addiction, committed to a life of foolhardy stunts to prove their courage to challenge death. They walk that continuum Aristotle spoke of. They find the thrill exhilarating and become “junkies” of the adrenalin rush. They access all elements of risk and the potential consequences in their quest to overcome the fear of dying. Those activities are solo challenges to fear unlike the questions and terror fostered by an unknown force or presence. Fear of abandonment by parents, the violence upon a small child, kidnapping, rape, and bullying are traumatic lifetime events with a high percentage of preventing the victim from ever feeling secure.
