ABSTRACT

This is the concluding chapter of Social capital and sport organisations. It summarises the key points from the 20-year overview of sport and social capital research (Chapter 2); the extended conceptualisation of social capital (Chapter 3); the in-depth case studies of voluntary sports clubs (Chapters 4 to 9); the analysis of wider international literature on social capital in voluntary sports clubs (Chapter 10); the review of wider sport management, policy and sociology research on social capital (Chapter 11); and the recommendations for practitioners and policymakers (Chapter 12). Drawing these threads together, it provides a summary view of social capital and sport organisations, through eight statements about where we are and one final question about where we are going.
