ABSTRACT

The chapter will use the case study of Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG) to assess the specific impact of bauxite extraction in Guinea in greater detail. The chapter will evaluate the contribution of the bauxite mining industry to the revenues of the state and how this has contributed to regime stability and social insecurity. This chapter will offer further insight into the emergence of the acquiescent permissive social contract that was facilitated by CBG largely in the absence of limited state presence within socio-economic development of the bauxite mining region of Boké.
