ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 evaluates the HRM and green management literature to explore the history of the socially inspired environmental movement and the subsequent emergence of associated green management concepts. Within the parameters of this review, we explore the materialization of green HRM and demystify its conception from within analogous management and OB constructs. Current definitions of green HRM will be discussed. In addition, Chapter 2 will discuss the key practices associated with green HRM and will probe existing literature to identify how and why organizations have been prompted to engage with and implement green HRM strategies. Chapter 2 concludes with a brief summation of the key points on the emergence and creation of green HRM.
