ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents theoretical and rights perspectives on educational inclusion. It outlines the fractured nature of educational inclusion for autistic young people, the challenges posed by the mainstream environment and the potential negative impacts this can have on the young person. The book describes ractical and theoretical considerations for developing rights-based inclusive participatory research to ensure that these voices are heard in an authentic autism-considered framework. It discusses the narratives of 12 autistic young people. These young people showed that they are experts in their own lives, of their autism, and should be given the space to disseminate their experiences to enable more autism self-advocacy. The book demonstrates that a needs-based argument is also important in ensuring access to suitable education that furthers the rights of each young person.
