ABSTRACT

It is often the case that coaches encourage cooperation among some athletes on their team. However, in a caring and task-involving climate, coaches make cooperation a key component of team dynamics, and encourage cooperation between and among all athletes (e.g., starters and nonstarters; older and younger; leaders and followers; highly committed vs. less committed, etc.). In this climate, coaches work very hard to help athletes understand the importance of building relationships with all members of the program, and not just some.
