ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how a dissertation can be used as a tool to further develop students' academic writing skills to enhance their personal development in terms of employment and postgraduate studies. It focuses on and evaluate the essential skills students have acquired through undertaking their dissertation and draws on they dissertation success to prepare them for the future in relation to job applications and interviews. Through an effective CV, student can use the experience of dissertation writing to their advantage when applying for jobs. The research opportunity provided by students' dissertation may have led them to consider undertaking further academic study at a higher level. For many students, a dissertation is their first experience of original research and can be a good opportunity to submit work for publication. Students whose manuscripts are sent for review may also learn from feedback, which is invariably more detailed than that found on marked coursework.
