ABSTRACT

Defined as the degree of difference between the lightest and darkest part of a picture: the ratio of the luminance of the brightest color (white) to the darkest color (black) that the playback system is capable of producing. There is a conceptual similarity between the contrast ratio of displays and the dynamic range of digital video cameras and film. There is no standard way of measuring the contrast ratio of displays. There is also the issue of static vs dynamic contrast. When we light a scene that will be broadcast or displayed on an LED or projection screen for IMAG, the quality of the resulting image will be based on a combination of the capabilities of the display equipment or the contrast of the display. The primary factors that effect contrast ratios are: color, surface, reflectance, and intensity.
