ABSTRACT
The economic metamorphosis was a direct result of the change in political conditions. The common objective of the competent authorities in the spheres of production, import and supply, is to stimulate home-production and enable a contraction of imports of foodstuffs. In the United States of America the decline in the rural population is a corollary of the expansion of industry, the mechanization of agriculture and rising levels of farm production. An inquiry into the causes and the prevention of hunger would save untold human lives, would avert wars, and in the ultimate resort would prove far more economical than the production and maintenance of the immense machinery of destruction. The optimum contribution of Israel’s agriculture to the national economy will be determined by the consumption of foodstuffs, the rate and dimensions of development, technological standards and the skill of the farmers.
