ABSTRACT

Chapter 6.2 explores different approaches to working in partnership with families and how these have changed historically. It explores parenting programmes and approaches to involving parents in their children’s learning and in the life of early years settings. This chapter suggests that working in partnership with families is a complex aspect of practice that demands skilled and self-aware educators because it is reflective of educators’ views of parental roles and family form and is permeated with power relations, so chapter 6.2 explores both the parent’s perspective and the educator’s role.
