ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we get to know the model of insight generation that sits at the heart of the book: the STEP Prism of Insight. STEP stands for Sweat, Timeout, Eureka, and Prove. The model shows that, if you want to increase the chances of having more and better insights, you need to (i) be curious, acutely and chronically; (ii) take timeout away from the challenge entirely; (iii) recognize what it feels like – intellectually, emotionally, and physiologically – to have a breakthrough insight; and finally, (iv) share it with others before you invest too much time and energy trying to make it too perfect.
