ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 orients this book to Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and translation studies by reviewing the studies that apply SFL to translation. In addition, the data of the present study is introduced, with three kinds of text being identified, including dramatic dialogue, dramatic monologue, and stage direction. An analytical framework that considers the three kinds of text and involves different systems of language is then constructed.
