ABSTRACT

In this second chapter detailing S&Co.’s Education, the programs offered on Kemble Street campus are explored: Riotous Youth (a summer camp for ages 7–17) and Shakespeare & Young Company (an apprenticeship/internship program running primarily as a Summer Conservatory for participants aged around 20, who train and engage with the Company as nascent artist managers). The practical pedagogy for these programs is examined, including checking inand reinforcing; dictionary work; holding the space for the education artists; and ‘learning about learning,’ as Shakespeare & Company’s Training is incorporated into the Education programs. Typically the education artists also act in summer productions, whereby all three pillars of Training, Education and Performance are brought together.
