ABSTRACT

This second chapter detailing the actor-training methodology of the Month-Long Intensive turns to Text Work. Here Tina Packer’s experience with John Barton (elucidating the Structure of the Verse and the Art of Rhetoric) aligns the personalization of Basics with the clues inherent in each text. The intricate interweaving of literary form and psychophysical content is explored further in the Sonnet progression, as evolved by Dennis Krausnick. As Scene work is introduced, there follows a close exploration of Packer’s original practice of dropping in a text, which synergizes on a deep level personal biography with Shakespeare’s dramaturgy to further manifest language as experience. After dropping in come the next two stages of Packer’s text progression: standing the scene up and feeding the scene in.
