ABSTRACT

The day after Donald Trump was elected president, millions of angry and grieving protesters, led by women, marched through hundreds of US cities wearing pink “pussy-hats.” Meanwhile, anti-Trumpists saw the traditionalist Trump militaristic nationalism as a new corrupt crusade for glory, but, in the case of liberal and Democratic anti-Trumpists, one that would destroy the cosmopolitan diversity and American exceptionalism that had always made America great. Trump’s glorious cause has been, in reality a perpetuation of the Reagan revolution, with some important nuances in rhetoric and policy. Reagan’s glorious cause was all about making America the uncontested ruling Super-power of the world. Reagan built a glorious crusade to destroy the “evil empire” of the Soviet Union and make the US so overwhelmingly dominant militarily that no country or group of countries could even imagine challenging it.
