ABSTRACT

In evolution each new development was able to draw upon what had already been accomplished. Evolution is continuing to accelerate, and the rapid acceleration shows no signs of abating. Before the development of stars with planetary systems, the only mechanisms open to evolution were at the atomic and subatomic levels. Once the cooler conditions necessary for the formation of more complex molecules existed, evolution had another foothold on which to build and could go that much faster. The more complex the molecules it produced, the greater scope there was for further evolution. With the continued creation of more and more complex forms, platform of life expanded and evolution moved on faster and faster. While most of the general principles of Darwinian evolution are accepted by the vast majority of scientists, the notion of continuous gradual development has been called into question. Many of the changes represent developments in evolution as significant as earlier developments as sexual reproduction and photosynthesis.
