ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces TESOL and the Cult of Speed in the Age of Neoliberal Mobility. The running theme of this chapter is that it is imperative to adopt a post-structuralist position and reject the binary opposition between “fast” and “slow” as well as an antagonistic position in order to critically conceptualize the construct of speed in relation to TESOL. It also argues that the ideology of “speed” in the age of increased neoliberal mobility has now become an unavoidable phenomenon that needs to be critically unpacked, acknowledged, identified, and theorized in the field of TESOL.
