ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some of the emerging themes around the agenda of age diversity in the workplace and try to consider the immediate issues arising from coronavirus disease as it might impact the field of learning and development going forward. Many organizations, no matter their size, will be working on making several changes to their business and operational practices at any one time, although often these projects may fail despite best efforts. The capacity to change i.e. the extent to which there is an appetite to do things differently will also need to be considered. Both managers and employees may be resistant to any changes proposed. The age profile of both existing staff and potential recruits and what this means for an organization must still be measured and taken into account when planning and delivering services to both external customers and employees themselves. Maintaining a multigenerational workforce in and amongst these changing conditions will also be a challenge.
