ABSTRACT

Louise Lightfoot, born in Yangery on 22 May 1902, was the fourth child and third daughter of Victorian-born parents, Charles Lightfoot, a schoolteacher, and his wife Mary, nee Graham. Mary Louise Lightfoot notes, Louise Lightfoot was born into a line of strong, independent women and a family of teachers. Louise found Marion “outspoken and passionate” and observed, She was a remarkable woman, her husband’s devoted and capable executrix and the supervisor of his young draftsmen. Louise would manifest the educational and teaching background of her family in unusual ways throughout her life. She realised the great pool of talent in young people, inspired and promoted the appreciation of and active participation in the arts, especially dancing, in thousands of young people. She was a good teacher, a perfectionist, and would train dancers for the rest of her life.
