ABSTRACT

An audio interface translates a sound recorded by a microphone or electric instrument into digital information that may be processed by a computer, mobile device, or digital multitrack recorder. Once the information is processed by these devices, an audio interface will translate the signal back into audible form to be heard through monitors or headphones. There are appropriate choices for every grade level and teaching situation, from an elementary school general music classroom to a high school music production lab. Mobile-based technology is widespread in schools, as these tools have many other applications beyond music production and can easily be stored on a cart and shared among faculty. While standalone recorders and mobile-based apps offer portable and cost-efficient options for sound recording technology, they are not industry-standard tools and may not be the most appropriate choice for an advanced music production class.
