ABSTRACT

The second chapter treats the Mahabharata as a metanarrative and explores the way in which a pair of young comics creators use the medium to provide a satirical re-telling of the Great War but in the process also enter into a dialogical relationship with the tradition of commentary and narration that forms the universe in which the epic text is embedded. The chapter also provides a detailed description of the process of comics creation based on discussions with the creators and the notes that they wrote to each other while creating the story and on the distinctive style of Japanese manga that was used to re-create the visual landscape of the story, making this variant of the epic a hybrid text.
