ABSTRACT

Chapter 5, the conclusion, turns our attention to the structural aspects of the comics form of storytelling and pays close attention to devices such as page layout, panel breakup, pacing, the use of irregular panels, speech balloons, and font size in the comics discussed in each chapter to show how they aid in a distinctive form of picture storytelling. It also discusses the concept of “medium” as a form of potentiality that is best exemplified through instances of narration itself. Each genre of narrative takes up particular aspects of a well-known myth to foreground meaning that may have been latent in another of its tellings in a different medium.
