ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book deals in the broadest sense with the relation of Christianity towards Hinduism. This relation was newly constituted in the modern era and subsequently was also complicatedly developed in the form of the so-called Christian Ashram Movement. The book aims to view the whole Christian Ashram Movement in the historical context of the development of Christianity in India. It offers the perspective from which the Movement is seen as a remarkable and extraordinarily prolific phenomenon in this development. The book offers a brief overview of the history of Christianity in India. It represents the thought concept of inculturation into the general framework of which Christian ashrams and the Movement can be included. The book deals with the history of the Christian Ashram Movement itself.
