ABSTRACT

Qualitative inquiry is useful in social and market research, and investigators often use this method of inquiry to address problems of a certain nature—usually, to gain thorough and detailed insight into behavioral issues. Historical research examines existing information in such a way as to address questions or test hypotheses and draw conclusions about past experiences, incidents, and trends. Researchers address historical issues by analyzing news accounts or interviewing eyewitnesses to an event and presenting the facts without bias. The aim of philosophical research is to address facts and values and examine the meaning of and make assumptions about phenomena from a conceptual perspective. A Delphi study is a means of forecasting or a method of gaining group consensus. The technique is useful when researchers and analysts need opinions from several experts to solve a problem or find an answer to a question.
