ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests that based on experiences of the inquiry, are made for guidelines that will enhance the outcome of future meta-analytic investigations of survey research. The application of meta-analysis for the examination of survey research is a relatively new use of the methodology. Since meta-analysis uses results from other studies, the addition of unreliable or invalid studies compounds problems at the time of the final analysis. More than one researcher should evaluate the surveys in order to insure less bias. Ideally, more than one researcher should also determine the evaluation criteria. Specification of the research question is a vital element in a successful meta-analysis of surveys. Delineation of the research domain is crucial in all meta-analyses, but carries significant weight in investigations of surveys. The literature review is yet another area in which subjectivity can occur.
